Every blogger wants great readership- we all want like three hundred thousand million readers for our blogs because more readers = more traffic = more comments = popularity and engagement = fulfilment + money = Gbo gbo aiye foreign!
So usually a question I get often is “how do I get more people to read my blog?“. There are less aggressive ways of getting more people to read your blog…apart from shoving your phone in people’s faces saying “oh I blog now, read this post” (which I used to do)… *hides face in palm*
Your Content: This includes not just what you’re writing about but how you write it and introduce it. Some people have awesome content but the headings = zero. Make it fun, catchy, appealing! Suck your audience in… i. e 5 ways to get Kim Kardashian’s butt! Use creative photos and killer titles. Also make sure your blog is easy to read, fancy fonts and backgrounds can kill readership. Too much senrenren.
Blog Roll: Blog rolls are great for finding new blogs and being found. Blogrolls are those little links on the side a blog that redirects you to other awesome blogs they’re reading- I have one on the bottom right side of my blog. Some of you bloggers don’t have blog rolls…it’s not nice o… there’s love in sharing readership. That’s how I got found by some of you (leave a comment if you found me from another blog’s blogroll)
Social Media: I use it- I don’t let it use me. Be more engaging on facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube, bbm, pinterest! I started working more on my instagram career-now I upload short 15 sec videos just to give a teaser of what they can see if they check out my blog. Keep sharing!
Blog Mentions: I do this once in a while, which is give a shout out to another blogger/blog. It is a great way to direct traffic from one blog to another-but don’t do this if the other blog is better that yours (they will just suck in all your readers…) LOL. Na joke I dey joke. However, this is usually the fear…”what if I give shout out to another blog and then my blog readers stop reading my blog “…well, I don’t know if that happens.
Mailing List: Do you have one of those little gadgets on your blog that allows readers subscribe? This helps to retain the readership you have and more people can subscribe. For example, when you insert your email below, you get signed up to my blog- everything I post comes to your email immediately (meaning you’re first to be notified of my giveaways).
Summarise : Some of us should be writing novels not blog posts because the length of some posts I’ve seen are scary…I’m usually like “where do I start from? When will it end?”…not everyone likes to read more than 250 words. Summarise what you’re trying to say.
