SHOULD I SIGN A SOCIAL MEDIA PRENUP? TILL TWITTER DO US PART…

Ok, so we know the D-Day is getting close and there are a lot of things that I never knew would happen before a wedding/marriage. One of which is a social media prenup. Yup. However, Bobo isn’t really making me sign one: wait till he finds out there’s a clause like this. LOL. @Officialdaddymo sent me this link on twitter and I thought it was very very interesting. In today’s day and age, a social media prenup might be just what you need 😀

What is a social media prenup about? Ann-Margaret Carrozza, a New York attorney who specializes in estate planning, shared news of the mini-trend. From ABCNews:

“A typical social media clause will state that couples can’t post nude photos, embarrassing photos or photos or posts that are likely to harm a spouse’s professional reputation, Carrozza said. Her clients don’t pick and choose between what’s acceptable for Facebook versus Instagram, but do more of a blanket provision for all social media and the penalty is usually monetary”

We see a lot of “leaked” nudes lately, we also see loads of tweets that couples share and the spouse isn’t aware. Some people may post pictures of their hot sexy wife in a bikini on twitter and perhaps, the wife isn’t really happy about that. So this clause is set to protect you especially if you know your partner is very social media savvy and is often posting things you would consider private.

“The agreements can also cut down on divorce court squabbling because spouses will be less likely to blackmail each other or talk about their breakup on social media, ABCNews reports. So, for example, if you’re getting a divorce, you can’t tweet about it without having to pay your spouse, based on the prenup.”

I believe before you post anything on social media about your relationship, your family or even yourself, you need to get your partners consent. Some men do not like their wife posting sexy photos of themselves, and we know how girls love to do that on Instagram. A relationship is a partnership and about compromise – are the LIKES and RETWEETS worth ruining your relationship for?
What do you think about signing s social media prenup? Would you sign one???
