THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG ABOUT HOW DONBRAYE AKANGBOU DIED...

What a loss! Donbraye is Bobo’s childhood friend, they attended Air Force secondary school together, I never met Donbraye but he was someone whose name I was familiar with because Bobo has  gisted about him to me, DonB as he was popularly called was full of humour, always smiling and e nor get wahala. He was also hailed as "Donbraye, your own beta". There is so much wrong with how Donbraye died...

Donbraye only got married earlier this year after dating his wife for years, I bet they were blissfully happy! From reports, she’s currently 3 months pregnant with their first child and Donbraye would not even get to know his child or spend forever with his wifey. This is what is wrong about how he died.

Some of his colleagues had to buy diesel for the office generator.(Lunberg Services Ltd behind Coca Cola in Port harcourt Trans Amadi) and some JTF police men trailed them from the filling station tp into the office premises. The JTF policemen began harassing the guys so Donbraye had to come out to resolve the issue. In the course of explaining, one of the officers got impatient and wanted to use the head of his gun to hit one of the employees, instead the gun went off and shot Donbraye in the stomach at close range...

Donbraye did not go out looking for trouble, trouble came looking for him, he was at the office, working hard and in a brief moment of chaos his life was wasted...what kind of accident is that?! Why would an officer want to hit someone with the butt of a gun? Why? This is what is wrong about how Donbraye died.

Donbraye was taken immediately to a hospital but he was not treated because it was a gun shot wound and he need a police report before he could get treated, why not treat a patient regardless and when the patient is stabilized you can start requesting for police reports? What exactly is the purpose of doing this? Countless people have died due to this, victims of robbery attacks, victims of accidental discharge… This is what is wrong!!!

Donbraye was not assisted by his killer, yes he was shot by the JTF, the least they could do was go with him to the hospital and explain the situation, in fact demand that he be treated, shebi they have power enough to kill? They should have aided the hospital to keep him alive. He died an hour after being taken to the hospital...imagine that!

Donbraye may not get justice, whatever happened to his killer? Would he be arrested? Would he pay for this? To him this was just another accidental discharge, just somebody, but Donbraye was more than that, he was the reason someone thanked God everyday, he was someone’s everything! Will Donbraye’s killer be held accountable? This is not the first of a case like this and unfortunately will not be the last… everything is wrong with how Donbraye died!

We must seek justice. Please help in the campaign to seek justice for Donbraye!!!

  9. Still can't place the reasoning behind d need for "police report " for one to be treated of gunshot wounds; even criminals shld be kept alive to getting info towards solving major crimes. This has been a subject of debate for far too long bt it seems to be of very little legislative importance. Tnx Sisi let's see if ds drop will one day be part of the ocean of change

  10. Oh no, this is just so sad. I actually have tears in my eyes reading this. Too sad. When will all these foolishness of accidental discharge of bullets stop in our police force? Are they even trained? This is just too sad. Lord rest his soul & give his wife the grace and strength to pull through this.

  13. Let us get justice for Donbraye because it is the right thing to do. We need to push for a reform of the Nigerian Police force, and review hospital policy so that patients receive treatment first before anything else because life is just too precious. http://about.me/idrisbusari

  19. News like this one makes me so sad, mad & frustrated about Nigeria. Justice must be sought for Donbraye - may his soul rest in peace (but may it also torment all who did this to him - the JTF and the hospital that denied him treatment. I think the JTF commander should also be bombarded. JTF is a military unit so the Nigerian Police may be wary. From newspaper reports, I'm aware that the JTF Niger Delta spokesperson is Col. Onyema Nwachukwu. Justice must be sought!

  22. You see this useless country called Nigeria.......you see it? How human beings die like fowl in broad daylight, the killer being our very own law enforcement agent called to serve and protect whose name is known to everyone......not some anonymous person.

SisiYemmie .....what made you return to this hellhole called Nigeria? In a saner society the person who did this could acknowledge it was an accident and take him to hospital and insist he is treated since he is a policeman. But no, in an insane one like Nigeria a policeman can let you die....all he had to do was show up at the clinic and explain matters.

My heart bleeds for the wife and unborn kid. SisiYemmie I hope your blog will make a difference in the outcome of matters.

  23. oh my God i'm so sorry about this! this is so sad, there are so many things wrong with nigeria's health care and justice system. May God comfort his wife, only God can comfort the lady. But yhhh there is no accountability, no protocol and no regard for human life back home, i don't know what the priorities of the government are. I hope my generation will rise to change the priorities by targeting basic means for survival (security, health care, education etc). Sad i'm a ph babe, and i hate hearing stories this! 25. Hi everyone,

I have been trying to push on this case to get momentum going as this is what we owe this young man who I was blessed to know in life at AFSS before leaving Nigeria's shores. Here are the telephone numbers of Major police stakeholders as shown on the NPF site. Please call as I have been also calling, lets get this case to the highest levels we canhttp://www.npf.gov.ng/emergency-contact

  26. Such a sad one. The ideology of an average nigerian in a position to enforce law is just so wrong because of impunity. There are no checks and balances in our system. The judiciary is more of a political party and no longer blind to justice. Somtimes I wonder if we have human rights lawyers in this country anymore. Public relations will remain an issue in Nigeria if a proper elightenment is not carried out around d country. God will hear our prayers someday. My prayers to his wife and family.
