I grew up watching Oprah; I have always wondered why she didn't have kids and why she hasn't married her long time bobo, Mr. Stedman, have you wondered too? Well in this issue of Hollywood Reporter, Oprah answers why she doesn't have kids... She had this to say:
"If I had kids, my kids would hate me. "They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something in my life would have had to suffer and it would've probably been them..."She also mentioned that she has never dreamed of being a mother...
"Gayle [King, Winfrey's best friend and now a mother of two] was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade Home Ec class, was writing down her name and the names of her children. While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King."
Although she does not have kids of her own, she is surrounded by kids who are like her own. She spends a lot of time attending to the students attending the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Oprah tells THR she begins her day every morning at 7:30 a.m. (no alarm clock needed!) by exchanging emails with the girls: "I'm responding to everything from 'I'm feeling lost' to 'I need advice about a boy,'" she shared.
Previously she had this to say about not being married:
"I used to get that question all the time: Why haven't you married Stedman? Actually, Stedman asked me to marry him, and at first I said "Yes!" but it turned out that I wanted to beasked to be married more than I wanted to be married. Had it not been for big-mouth Gayle King over there, it wouldn't have become the big public thing that it became. Gayle was there when he asked me, and then she went on TV—she was anchoring the news back then—and told everybody. And it became this big hoo-da-ha-da thing....
...It just felt like the wrong thing for me. This was at the same time that I was supposed to have the book coming out. We were in Miami, in the back of a limousine, coming back from the party with the big shrimp, and Stedman asks, "So when is the book coming out?" The book was coming out September 14 or something, and our wedding had been scheduled for September 8. We had a date and everything. So Stedman says, "Well, I don't want to have my wedding in competition with your book." And I remember thinking, "Yes! Really? Okay, great! I ended up canceling both, and we have not discussed it since that day."
i loved this article, and yes I had always wondered too!
ReplyDeleteGod did not put us all on earth to have biological kids.
ReplyDeleteI also love seeing people who do not live their lives for others but do what works for them.
i'd rather some one who really want a kid have them than some one who believed she would not make a good mum.
Money is not everything…because you have money should not mean you can have a soccer team for kids… time spent with kids is so priceless.
As simple as it sounds some people were not created to be biological mothers… same way some people chose to remain single and not marry or even be in relationships.
Do not force your believes on others.. cos i have read where ppl abuse the her.. it is not called for.
Hmmm...could these be the only reasons?she herself knows...
ReplyDeleteI don't even know whst to say about this post..her reasons her best known to her.that's her belief...her career comes first right?ohh well. tosinjet8@yahoo.com
